Ethan Markowitz, Palo Alto High School, Yosemite Valley
When I first took the picture I thought it was more saddening than heartening. The hiker is alone, garbed in black, and surrounded by a giant valley of nothing with cloudy mountains blocking his escape. But as I look longer, the image gives me a sense of serenity, I am calm, and I think that is how the walker feels too.
This is a gorgeous photograph. The size of the walker versus the size of the mountain makes me feel the magnitude of the environment.
On the one hand the single hiker conveys a sense of human humility when faced with the sublime, and yet despite his relatively tiny size he’s the darkest part of the photograph and so remains the most eye-catching part.
I love how soft the colors are in this photograph, and how this causes your eyes to focus on the dark figure of the person. I also think it’s interesting how you used the rule of thirds and composed your photo so that the person is towards the right of the photo; it’s especially visually interesting.
I really enjoy how present the dark figure looks compared to the calm and relaxing environment. It gives me the message of something dark and mysterious in such a perfect looking place.
I really love this photograph. The beautiful colors are what draw me in first. The photo creates a serene feel in the already natural environment. The single person off to the side really shows us how insignificant we truly are.
This photograph really makes me share the same feeling as Ethan, the feeling of calm and serenity. The scenery gives the vibe of a dangerous, eery place with an added element of pure calm.
I love how this picture gives off a eerie feel. This mysterious picture draws me in.
This photo seems little bit depressive because of fog there. After while staring on this photography I m wondering what the black siluet of person going to do .
Ethan, I love the photo. I agree about the serenity of the hiker and I enjoyed the muted (see my use of vocab words) tones of the leaves and grass.
